Bilbao: A Serendipitous End of Adventure

The travel end is always to be concluded with a fantastic travel sweet dish, which I found in Bilbao.

After completing my adventurous Portugal trip to Skydive, Benagil Cave, and Praia da Rocha Beach, I took a flight from Lisbon to Madrid and then to Bilbao. My main purpose was to move ahead toward Beasain, as it is my work location, but while standing at Bilbao Airport, I suddenly thought, “Can I have time to explore Bilbao?”

In front of me, there were two buses: one heading towards San Sebastián, which is my intermediary stop for Beasain, and another towards Bilbao city. I was totally confused, but then, with the flip of a coin, I chose Bilbao and asked myself, “Why should I miss this?”

So began my small but sweet journey to explore Bilbao. I took the bus and reached the Museum of Bilbao, known as the “Guggenheim Museum Bilbao.”

From the perspective of a bus viewer, when I saw the first glimpse of the museum, I thought, “I shouldn’t have missed this.”

The museum’s architecture, with its creative folds in titanium, was on another level. The view from outside was mesmerizing. I thought, “I love this view and will stay in this view for eternity.”

But my stomach soon reminded me that it needed feeding, and there was a gelato store nearby with mouth-watering frozen treats.

So, I ordered a bigger gelato to satisfy my cravings. As I continued to look towards the museum, I encountered an obstruction: a guard dog named “Puppy.”

This green, garden-bodied dog has been guarding the museum since 1997 and is a beautiful selfie spot for travelers. After clicking some photographs, I moved towards the museum to get a view of Spanish art in the heart of the Basque Country.

After a beautiful visit to the museum, it was time to explore its exteriors. I followed the crowd towards the back of the museum, which is on the bank of the Nervión River.

The flow of water in the titanium-structured museum was a satisfying view, but the experience wasn’t over yet. Suddenly, throbbing vapor smoke started from the bank of the museum and river. It felt like heaven was here, and all travelers were captivated by this artificial fog.

The walk along the riverbank with the museum and its recently created foggy weather was like a dream come true for a traveler who loves experiencing the world’s unique sights.

After experiencing this fantastic dream view, I continued exploring. A huge spider statue appeared in front of me, reminding me of the spider from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

This point of view, with the spider at the front and the museum at the back, was a masterpiece. I kept wondering, what surprises were waiting for me at the next step.

This museum is a place of art, so talking with an artist is a must. I saw a small street painter capturing the nearby scene with her artistic vision, which everyone passing by appreciated.

Moving ahead with dreamy memories, I walked and captured the moments. Bilbao stays in the mind and heart, never letting you feel bored if you explore it deeply.

Soon, I encountered another surprise: the arch bridge. It looks normal from the sides, but when you climb onto it, the view is geometrically unique. This inclined bridge is another masterpiece of this beautiful city.

Walking over it was an honor for me. I suddenly stopped in the middle of the bridge and saw children having a kayaking party. A huge number of kayaks were on the river, and it was a view I never wanted to miss.

With these small moments of happiness, amusement, and sweetness, I started my way toward the bus stop, as there were no important monuments nearby, according to Google.

First, I tried to get tram tickets, but since everything was in Spanish, I didn’t succeed with the vending machine.

As a traveler, I prefer to walk, no matter the distance. Walking lets you explore more and more of the place you’re in.

I started for Estación de Autobuses de Bilbao, and after a few minutes of walking, I reached a place that Google indicated was the correct location, but there was no bus station or visible bus.

I stayed there for a while, watching people, hoping to figure out the bus station’s location. I succeeded.

Google was right; I was at the correct location but at the wrong elevation. The bus station was underground. I saw many people entering and exiting a subway entrance with their luggage.

I headed into the subway and reached the bus station. I bought a ticket, waited for about 30 minutes, and then reached San Sebastián. From there, I took a train to finally reach Beasain.

This beautiful and fruitful Sunday concluded with unexpected desserts in my travel meal. I believe my decision to take the bus to Bilbao City was right, as it gave me so many everlasting views and experiences I never wanted to miss.

Now it’s time to say goodbye and start planning the next trip.
